Technical approach
WASTE2H2 propose a novel technology in which innovative Ionic Liquids-based catalytic systems in combination with microwave irradiation selectively produces highly pure clean H2 and valuable decarbonized chemicals from plastic waste.
The WASTE2H2 methodology comprise rational design of innovative catalytic systems, extensive testing campaign on microwave-assisted plastic waste (focused in Low Density polyethylene (LDPE), Polypropylene (PP) & Polystyrene (PS) plastics) catalytic deconstruction, in-depth analysis of results and full techno‑economic/environmental assessment.
The overall methodology of WASTE2H2 project comprises 4 main tasks:
- Design, development, and optimization of innovative Ionic Liquid-based catalytic systems;
- Microwave-assisted plastic deconstruction process study;
- Validation of WASTE2H2 technology at TRL4;
- Full techno-economic and environmental assessment and exploitation plan.
